Lasting growth and change come from an intentional pursuit of authenticity and building our lives on core principles that have stood the test of time. When you think of "being real" and living life according to what is "wise and true," what comes to mind?
For us, we have listed a few thoughts on what it means to be a real, authentic human being and what it means to base your life and relationships on wisdom and truth:
Authenticity
We believe that the essence of personal health and well being centers on being authentic, or real - well connected to ourselves and able to freely and effectively express all our feelings and thoughts.
Authenticity means we seek to know who we are and strive to live without masks, without pretending to be someone we are not. We believe in the power of God's love and grace, extended to each of us without conditions or needing to be someone different.
People who hurt and suffer psychologically have often learned to hide their feelings and thoughts and pain from others and God - and even themselves.
Truth
In addition to authenticity, we believe the essence of personal health and well being centers on a deep appreciation for discovering the truth and applying it to our lives.
This means basing our lives on guiding principles - on specific truths that make life worth living - on wisdom that nourishes the soul and shapes our relationships. God is ultimately the author of all truth, the source of wisdom and a guide for all life's challenges.
Growth and change depend on internalizing deep truths capable of healing wounds and influencing the quality of life we create.
Authenticity without truth blinds us to the direction our lives can take. Truth without authenticity takes away our individuality, creativity and the desire we need to seek growth and transformation. --Doug & Leslie Gustafson
